The occupiers still haven't decided what kind of weapons such structures are supposed to protect against

A video has appeared in open access that shows the following: russians continue to weld their "barbecue grills" even on such combat vehicles as T-62M tanks.

At the same time, to make such structures, the occupiers even use temporary Soviet-made airfield coverings, which Ukrainian peasants quite often use as a barrier for their bypasses. To put it simply, russian occupiers even started looting metal from Ukraine’s peasants, so that they would have something to make fake protection for their tanks.

Judging from open sources, even russian occupiers themselves cannot give an adequate explanation why they continue their cargo cult-like practice of installing "barbecue grills" on the turrets of their tanks. Especially after it became clear that such designs only reduce the crew's chances of survival in combat conditions.

There is evidence that T-62Ms were given to the "Don volunteer brigade" (which is probably smaller than the battalion in terms of actual numbers). They allegedly claimed that these grills are designed to protect against cumulative RKG-3 grenades that could land on their heads from Ukraine’s drone. However, such explanation and appliance are questionable. At least because the ammunition stack of the T-62M is located in such a way that you cannot cover it with any grill over the turret.

You can see a selection of other constructive variations of "barbecue grills" on the T-62 in this selection of the Necro Mancer Twitter profile.
