Despite ongoing negotiations for a ceasefire, March saw a sharp increase in combat engagements along the frontline. According to Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the number of clashes rose from 3,274 in February to 4,270 in March, bringing the total for 2025 to 12,631 so far.
In addition to intensified ground fighting, russian forces have significantly escalated their use of guided aerial bombs against Ukrainian positions and settlements. In March alone, approximately 4,800 such munitions were deployed, an increase from 3,370 in February. This brings the total number of guided bombs dropped in the first quarter of 2025 to 10,577.

For comparison, throughout the entirety of 2024, russian aviation used around 40,000 guided aerial bombs, highlighting the sustained and growing intensity of the air campaign against Ukraine.

The continued escalation in both air and ground operations raises concerns about the prospects of a ceasefire, as russia shows no signs of reducing its offensive capabilities.
