One fact can tell a lot about the work of the russian military industry at this stage of the war

Propaganda resources of russia have published an interview with Boris Obnosov, CEO of the JSC Tactical Missiles Corporation (KTRV - abbreviation that stands for the company’s name in russian: "Корпорация Тактическое Ракетное Вооружение", КТРВ). KTRV, among other things, is a manufacturer of UMPK bomb kits (UMPK stands in russian for universal guidance and correction module) used to convert bombs into guided ones, as well as Kh-69 air-to-ground cruise missiles for tactical aviation.

In this interview, Obnosov reported that in 2023-2024 the number of employees of the KTRV increased from 66 000 to 90 000 people. This is a rather revealing fact that comprehensively reveals the peculiarities of the work of the russian military industry at this stage of russia – Ukraine war.

To begin with, it is worth specifying - CEO of the KTRV claims that the increase in the number of personnel by almost 50% occurred both at the enterprises producing components as well as at the enterprises where the final assembly of finished weapons samples takes place.

He also stated that the financial volume of production at the KTRV facilities also doubled - to 1 trillion rubles. According to him, this happened due to the intensification of technological processes, within the framework of which, supposedly, it was possible to reduce the production cycle by 25-30%.

However, at the same time, the aforementioned Obnosov admits that the enterprises subordinate to him have significant problems with obtaining new production equipment. According to him, the supply of machine tools from the russian STAN corporation solves the problem only partially.

Furthermore, the following interesting point is outlined: on the one hand, the CEO of the KTRV is forced to implement plans to increase production that were set for the enterprise by the political leadership of russia, and at the same time cheerfully reports on the implementation of these plans, declaring a "reduction in the cost of some product models by 30%, and some - even twice".

On the other hand, the russians admit their problems in that they need to make their missiles, guided aerial bombs and other guided ammunition more resistant to the influence of electronic warfare means that are at the disposal of the Defense Forces of Ukraine. That is, one can trace the absence of a logical connection in the statements of the management of the KTRV about "simplifying production" and at the same time "complicating products".

At the same time, the CEO of KTRV claims that they were supposedly able to sell $370 million of their products for export in 2024, and that the total portfolio of export orders is supposedly as much as $7 billion. In addition, Obnosov reported that the enterprise is successfully running a "diversification" program for the production of civilian by-products (for example, medical equipment, charging stations for electric buses, prostheses and composite pipes for boiler rooms).

It is also interesting that the aforementioned Obnosov claims that they managed to reduce the average age of employees to 40-44 years, and that as a significant bonus, employees are offered the opportunity to purchase an apartment at a preferential price and a salary of 200 thousand rubles (ap. $2126) per month when working on a CNC machine tool.

However, the management contour that the Kremlin is currently applying to encourage the work of enterprises of the russian military-industrial complex is clearly evident. Apparently, the main motive here is the issue of employment of the population and the injection of finances into the civilian segment of consumption in order to mitigate the negative effect of the transfer of the russian economy to military rails.

At the same time, the fact that the management of a particular enterprise speaks of a continuous "improvement", without even trying to demonstrate logical cause-and-effect relationships, may indicate the presence of quite significant problems in this area in russia.
