The Magura 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade has unveiled footage showcasing Ukrainian helicopters in action. Adorned with Ukrainian insignia, these helicopters executed their mission before departing the battlefield. Captured by personnel from the UAV company, the brigade deemed the footage exceptional.
Among the aircraft featured is the Mi-17 helicopter, originally a russian aircraft acquired by the U.S. and later handed over to Afghan security forces. Following the withdrawal of American troops in August 2021, these helicopters exited the country.
On April 13, 2022, U.S. President Joe Biden pledged Mi-17 helicopters to bolster Ukraine’s defense against russian aggression. By June 2022, Defense Express had reported on the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ utilization of the Mi-17 helicopters. The video displays a helicopter bearing identification marks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, yet retaining camouflage from its service with the Afghan Army.
In total, Ukraine received 20 helicopters from the U.S., with an additional four Mi-17 helicopters donated by Slovakia, all originally sourced from russia.
