The RGW-90 Matador has been actively supplied to Ukraine since 2022 and has shown high effectiveness in combat. Now, it has also been integrated with a unique sight

German Dynamit Nobel Defence, in collaboration with Israeli SmartShooter, showcased the result of their joint work at the IDEX-2025 exhibition currently taking place in the UAE – a disposable RGW-90 Matador grenade launcher with the SMASH sight.

As Hartpunkt reports, the development has already been tested on the range, where it demonstrated maximum effectiveness and allowed for a "significant increase" in the likelihood of hitting moving targets at long distances.

From the side of Defense Express, we remind that the essence of the SMASH sight lies in the combination of a laser rangefinder, a ballistic computer, and the so-called machine vision for target recognition and tracking. Once the reticle aligns with the calculated aiming point, a shot is made.

Previously, SMASH was only offered as a sight for small arms. It was intended not only for accurately eliminating enemy personnel but also as an answer to the question of how to fight drones.

Combining it with a grenade launcher truly eliminates a significant dependence of its effectiveness on the fighter's skill. Judging by the photos from IDEX-2025, this system now resembles a full-fledged anti-tank missile system.

At the same time, such a combination and turning a light grenade launcher into a light anti-tank guided missile system raises questions about its place on the modern battlefield. After all, the declared firing range of the regular RGW-90 Matador is up to 600 meters, but the real effective range on moving targets is several times smaller. However, even if the SMASH sight allows for the full 600 meters, it still doesn't correlate well with the fact that the main anti-tank tool today is the FPV drone, which operates in NLOS (Non-Line-of-Sight) mode over several kilometers.
