Ukrainian forces attacked the Metafrax Chemicals plant, which manufactures components for explosives and is linked to russia's defense industry

On Saturday, May 23, a drone attack was reportedly carried out on an industrial facility in russia's Perm Krai.

This was reported by local authorities and Telegram channels.

According to the region's governor, Dmitry Makhonin, several drones were reportedly shot down by air defense assets and mobile fire groups before they could reach the target. Preliminary reports indicate no casualties.

Meanwhile, the monitoring resource Exilenova+ reports possible damage to the AKM chemical complex in the city of Gubakha. It specializes in the production of ammonia, urea, and melamine. Its production capacity is approximately 900 tons of ammonia and over 1,600 tons of urea per day.

Before this strike, Metafrax Chemicals was previously attacked on September 14, 2025. On that occasion, one of the plant's workshops was hit.

The next attacks took place on February 17 and March 11, 2026. In February, local residents reported at least six explosions, and plant workers were evacuated.

Metafrax Chemicals is one of russia's largest producers of methanol and its derivatives. The company specializes in gas processing chemistry and produces components used in explosives.

Methanol is used in russian defense industry as a critical component in the production of high-explosive munitions, rocket propellants, and explosives. It is used in the production of hexogen and octogen, as well as formaldehyde. This key enterprise also supplies methanol to meet russia's defense needs.
