russian propaganda media have been spreading the news that their battlecruiser Admiral Nakhimov of Project 1144 Orlan (NATO reporting name Kirov-class) will finally return to the combat composition of the Navy after almost three decades of being under repair.
It is reported that the missile cruiser is currently completing factory and sea trials, after which it should undergo state trials by the end of this year, and later this ship should return to the russian Navy.

If this happens within the next year, the russians will receive a ship that has been idle, repaired and modernized for about 30 years.
Let us recall that although officially Admiral Nakhimov battlecruiser was put for repair in August 1999, in fact the transfer to the repair site was made in July 1997, just 9 years later, after the ship entered service in 1988.
The repair and modernization of this cruiser cost the russians a fairly large amount – now the amount is said to be over 200 billion rubles, which at today's exchange rate is about 2.32 billion U.S dollars. It should be noted that earlier some sources reported that the cost of work carried out on this cruiser could be significantly higher and reach 5 billion dollars.
Currently, the question remains relevant as to how reasonable it is to invest so much effort and money in one ship - this question is asked by observers, and not only in the context of the fact that in modern warfare such weapons as naval drones have appeared on the battlefield, but also in general regarding the expediency of concentrating such a significant amount of weapons on one ship.
Let us recall that in the case of this cruiser, we are talking about 80 launchers for the Kalibr, Onyx and Zircon missiles, with which the Admiral Nakhimov becomes the most armed ship in the entire Russian fleet.
Defense Express wrote earlier, that, if the russian Admiral Nakhimov nuclear cruiser returns to service in 2026, russia would finally achieve what the United States accomplished 40 years ago with USS Bunker Hill.
