Although the U.S. had previously encouraged Europeans to purchase American weapons, customers are now facing delays due to the war in Iran and the resulting depletion of stockpiles

European countries will have to wait longer for American weapons, as the U.S. has warned of delays in deliveries. The reason cited is the war in Iran, which has resulted in significant depletion of ammunition and other supplies.

Reuters learned this from five different sources familiar with the situation. Accordingly, this will affect outstanding orders. It is also noted that the issue will affect the Baltic states and Scandinavia.

European countries are unhappy with the situation, particularly after the new White House administration encouraged additional purchases of American weapons. Now the situation for buyers is quite complicated.

Meanwhile, the U.S. is dismissing these claims, saying Europeans did not assist in the war with Iran in the Middle East or in securing passage through the Strait of Hormuz. The delay affects both defensive and offensive munitions.

From Defense Express we would like to note that this may further encourage Europe to purchase weapons from domestic manufacturers, even if potentially more expensive. This approach offers greater supply guarantees. Other alternative suppliers, such as South Korea, will also benefit.

The delays include PAC-3 MSE interceptors for the Patriot air defense system, the primary defense against Iranian ballistic missiles. The list also includes APKWS rockets, which are launched from ground platforms and aircraft to shoot down drones.

On the other hand, these could be AIM-120 and AIM-9 air-to-air missiles, which are also used in the NASAMS air defense system. In terms of strike capabilities, these could include GMLRS and ATACMS for the M142 HIMARS multiple launch rocket system, or the AGM-114 Hellfire.

The delays could also impact Ukraine, as European countries have been procuring ammunition for Ukraine via PURL, including Patriot PAC-3 MSE, AIM-120, GMLRS, and APKWS systems. However, no concrete information is available at this time.
