Ukraine's Special Operations Forces targeted the Atan oil depot near Simferopol, striking a facility used for fuel storage and distribution that supports russian military operations in Crimea

Ukraine's Special Operations Forces carried out a series of strikes against key russian fuel and military infrastructure targets during the night of June 8, continuing Kyiv's campaign to disrupt logistics deep behind enemy lines.

According to the SOF, one of the primary targets was the Atan oil depot located in Hvardiiske, near Simferopol in temporarily occupied Crimea. The strike was conducted by the Middle Strike unit, which specializes in long-range precision attacks.

The targeted facility is a significant element of the region's fuel distribution network. It reportedly contains 17 fuel storage tanks, a pumping station, as well as dedicated road and railway loading terminals used for handling petroleum products.

Such infrastructure plays a critical role in sustaining russian military operations, particularly in Crimea, which serves as a major logistics hub for forces operating in the south of Ukraine. Fuel depots support the movement of combat vehicles, supply convoys, and aviation assets.

The attack is part of a broader Ukrainian strategy aimed at degrading russia's logistical capabilities rather than focusing solely on frontline targets. Over the past year, Ukrainian forces have increasingly targeted oil depots, refineries, and fuel storage sites to complicate russian military planning.

Beyond the immediate loss of fuel reserves, strikes against facilities like the Atan depot can create bottlenecks in transportation and distribution networks. Even temporary disruptions may force russian forces to reroute supplies, increasing delivery times and logistical costs.
