Operators of the Nemesis 412th Brigade hit a key component of russian S-300V air defense system

Operators of Ukraine's Nemesis 412th Brigade have destroyed a key element of russian S-300V air defense system, scoring another high-value hit with mid-range strike capabilities.

Pilots from the Brigade's middle strike unit targeted and burned the 9A84 launcher-loader vehicle, a critical component of russian S-300V surface-to-air missile system. Such assets are rarely exposed and are typically positioned deep behind the front line.

9A84 vehicle plays a dual role within S-300V system. It transports two surface-to-air missiles in sealed launch containers and is also capable of conducting missile launches itself when operating as part of the integrated air defense battery.

In addition to its launch capability, 9A84 unit is equipped with a specialized crane rated for loads exceeding six tons, allowing it to reload launchers and handle heavy missile containers in the field. With a full combat load, the vehicle's total weight reaches approximately 47 tons.

The S-300V is a mobile, multi-role air defense system designed to protect critical military infrastructure and troop concentrations from aircraft, cruise missiles, and ballistic missile threats. Unlike older variants, it is optimized for countering high-speed and high-altitude targets.

The estimated cost of one S-300V system is around $40 million, making individual components such as launcher-loader vehicles particularly valuable targets. Their loss not only reduces the number of available interceptors but also disrupts the logistical and operational cycle of the entire battery.

Russian air defense systems of this class are usually deployed at significant distances from the front line to reduce their vulnerability. However, the strike demonstrates that such positioning no longer guarantees safety against Ukrainian mid-range precision strike assets.

As Defense Express previously reported, units of the Alpha Special Operations Center carried out a sustained campaign against russia's layered air defense system throughout 2025, inflicting losses estimated at roughly $4 billion.
