That is according to Ukraine’s General Staff operational update regarding the russian invasion as of 06.00, on January 3, 2023.
The russian federation continues its full-scale armed aggression against Ukraine. The enemy has not abandoned plans to reach administrative border of Donetsk oblast. The main efforts are focused on maintaining offensive potential and replenishing losses, in particular at the expense of the newly mobilized personnel.

In order to exert pressure on the leadership and the people of Ukraine, the enemy launches massive air and missile strikes, and conducts artillery attacks on critical civilian infrastructure and residential buildings across Ukraine, thereby violating the rules of International Humanitarian Law, the laws and principles of war.
During the past day, the adversary launched 6x missile and 52x air strikes, and conducted 77x MLRS attacks. All 6x missile strikes, as well as 30x air strikes targeted civilian infrastructure in various regions of Ukraine.
In addition, all 27x Shahed-136 loitering munitions involved in russian air strikes were successfully intercepted by the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
The enemy, attempting to take full control over the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts of Ukraine, concentrates its efforts on offensive operations on Bakhmut axis. Moreover, russian invaders make further attempts to improve tactical situation on Lyman and Avdiivka axes, and to strengthen its grouping on Novopavlivka direction by transferring units from Kherson axis.
Key points of the report:
Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna axes: the vicinities of Lypivka and Yelina (Chernihiv oblast); Volfine, Pavlivka, Pokrovka, and Mayske (Sumy oblast); as well as Strilecha, Starytsya, Ohirtseve, Vovchans’k, Okhrimivka, and Kamyanka (Kharkiv oblast) were subjects to artillery and mortar attacks;
Kup’yans’k axis: artillery systems of various types were employed to shell the vicinities of Novomlynsk, Tavilzhanka, Dvorichna, Lyman Pershiyi, Vilshana, Kup’yans’k, Kucherivka, Orlyanka, Kyrylivka, Kislivka, Kotlyarivka, Tabaivka, and Pershotravneve (Kharkiv oblast); Novoselivs’ke, Andriivka, and Stelmakhivka (Luhansk oblast).
Lyman axis: the enemy employed tanks, mortars, and barrel artillery to shell the vicinities of Makiivka, Ploshanka, Nevs’ke, Chervopopivka, and Dibrova (Luhansk oblast); as well as Terna (Donetsk oblast).
Bakhmut axis: russian tanks, mortars and rocket artillery systems shelled the vicinities of Spirne, Berestovka, Bilohorivka, Vesele, Yakovlivka, Soledar, Bakhmut, Kostyantynivka, Stupochki, Klishchiivka, Andriivka, Bila Hora, Kurdyumivka, Diliivka, Mayorsk, and New York (Donetsk oblast).
Avdiivka axis: the vicinities of Vesele, Berdychi, Avdiivka, Heorgiivka, Maryinka, Novomykhailivka, and Vodyane (Donetsk oblast) came under enemy tank and artillery fire.
Novopavlivka axis: the enemy employed tanks, mortars, barrel and rocket artillery in the vicinities of Vuhledar, Zolota Niva, Velyka Novosilka, and Vremivka (Donetsk oblast).
Zaporizhzhia axis: the enemy employed tanks and the entire range of artillery systems in the vicinities of Novopil (Donetsk oblast); Olhivske, Zelenyi Hai, Hulyaipole, Dorozhnyanka, Zaliznychne, Hulyaipils’ke, Charivne, Novodanilivka, Orihiv, Novoandriivka, Mali Shcherbaki, Stepove, Kam’yans’ke, and Plavni (Zaporizhzhia oblast); and Musiivka and Chervonohryhorivka (Dnipropetrovsk oblast).
Kherson axis: the enemy keeps shelling populated areas along the right bank of the Dnipro River. In particular, the civilian infrastructure of Kherson, Zelenivka, Inzhenerne, Molodizhne, Antonivka, and Beryslav settlements (Kherson oblast) suffered artillery shelling causing casualties among local population.
The enemy continues to suffer heavy losses. As a result of Ukrainian Defense Forces attack on the concentration of enemy troops in Chulakivka settlement (Kherson oblast) on December 31, 2022, the enemy lost up to 500x troops dead and wounded.
On January 1, 2023, the Ukrainian Defense Forces of Ukraine attacked russian troops in the vicinities ofFedorivka (Kherson oblast). Enemy casualties are to be specified.
During the past day, Ukrainian Air Force launched 13x air strikes on the concentrations of enemy troops, weapons and military equipment, as well as 5x air strikes against russian anti-aircraft missile systems.
Ukrainian Armed Forces shot down 1x enemy Ka-52 attack helicopter and 3x reconnaissance Orlan-10 type UAVs.
Moreover, Ukrainian missile and artillery troops engaged 1x concentration of russian troops and military equipment, and 1x enemy radar station.
