Ukrainian drone warfare continues to evolve with remarkable accuracy and tactical finesse. In a recent operation on the southern front, FPV drone pilots from the Asgard unit of the Nemesis 412th Regiment successfully destroyed camouflaged russian T-72 tank hidden in a forest strip. The strike showcased both the vulnerability of traditional armor and the precision of modern drone operators.
Despite the tank being protected by anti-drone nets, metal grids, and reactive armor, the FPV team managed to bypass or penetrate these defenses. The T-72, a legacy platform heavily used by russian forces, was reportedly turned into scrap in a direct hit, illustrating once again that even reinforced armored vehicles are no longer safe from skilled Ukrainian drone operators.

The T-72 tank and its more modern counterpart, the T-80 unit, remain the backbone of russia's armored fleet. Inheriting vast Soviet-era manufacturing capabilities, russia has continued to modernize and produce these tanks at scale. However, the growing dominance of low-cost, high-precision FPV drones on the battlefield is increasingly calling into question the survivability of even the most heavily protected ground vehicles.
Despite the shift toward unmanned systems and electronic warfare, tanks remain a potent and dangerous threat. Their mobility, firepower, and ability to operate in harsh weather conditions make them valuable assets for russian assault operations. Consequently, Ukrainian drone units prioritize the detection and destruction of such targets, understanding the strategic impact of neutralizing armored threats.
The Asgard FPV unit exemplifies how Ukrainian forces are blending classical reconnaissance with cutting-edge drone strikes. By identifying high-value enemy assets and conducting rapid, precision engagements, they are reshaping how firepower is delivered on the modern battlefield.
As Defense Express previously reported, Ukrainian drone operators from the SIGNUM unit of the 53rd Separate Mechanized Brigade have carried out a successful series of strikes against russian forces on the Lyman axis. According to a report published by the unit, the operation targeted not only enemy vehicles but also advanced surveillance and electronic warfare systems that play a key role in russian frontline operations.
The most notable targets destroyed include the Murom observation system, dubbed "the eyes of the enemy", and the Silok-M1 electronic warfare system, described as "ears that jam everything around". The precise elimination of these assets has temporarily deprived russian units in the area of both visual monitoring and drone-jamming capabilities, severely limiting their battlefield awareness.
