A covert operation by the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) Military Counterintelligence thwarted a planned russian strike on Ukrainian Neptune anti-ship missile systems deployed in the south

The operation was carried out with the direct support of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and the Commander of the Naval Forces of Ukraine. The suspect, a 33-year-old serviceman, had been recruited by russian military intelligence and was collecting classified data on the location and operational status of Ukraine’s Neptune launchers.

According to the SSU, the mole was preparing "an air attack by russian forces on Ukrainian Neptune missile systems, which are keeping the coastal waters of the Black Sea under fire control."

Once the coordinates were relayed, russian forces planned to execute a combined strike using kamikaze drones and cruise missiles. Investigators believe the plan included advance notice from the handler, allowing the agent to retreat to a safe distance before impact.

However, SSU operatives intercepted the operation in time. "The SSU Military Counterintelligence foiled the enemy’s plans by exposing the mole in time and documenting his crime," the report states.

Further investigation revealed the mole had also been tasked with adjusting russian missile strikes on Armed Forces training centers he had previously attended.

The agent came to the attention of russian operatives after leaving pro-russian comments in chatbots connected to the russian Ministry of Defense.

The operation was conducted under the procedural supervision of the Odesa Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Southern Region.
