A wave attack forced the system to expend missiles before a final strike eliminated it

Ukrainian unmanned systems units have destroyed another russian Tor-M1 air defense system, marking the ninth such system eliminated in the first nine days of April. The strike highlights an intensifying campaign aimed at systematically degrading russian short-range air defense capabilities.

The operation was carried out by operators of Ukraine's 1st Unmanned Systems Center. Footage of the engagement was released on April 9 by Major Robert Brovdi, commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces.

According to the footage, the Tor-M1 system initially managed to intercept two incoming Ukrainian strike drones. This demonstrates that the system remained operational and capable of engaging aerial threats, at least in the early phase of the attack.

However, the engagement also exposed a key limitation of such systems: finite missile capacity. After successfully downing two drones, the Tor-M1 system was unable to intercept a third due to a lack of available missiles. This created a brief but decisive vulnerability window.

Ukrainian operators exploited this moment, delivering a successful strike that destroyed the system. The sequence underscores a tactical approach increasingly used by Ukrainian forces, overwhelming air defenses through successive drone waves to exhaust interceptors.

Robert Brovdi emphasized the symbolic and operational significance of the strike, noting that this was the ninth russian air defense system destroyed in as many days. His remarks also pointed to the gradual erosion of russia's air defense umbrella, particularly at the tactical level.

As Defense Express previously reported, Ukrainian forces struck energy infrastructure in Krasnodar region and multiple logistics and air defense targets across temporarily occupied territories.
