Britain pledges over $682M including 1,000 LMM missiles, first-ever PURL contribution, and RapidRanger system transfers

The United Kingdom announced a new military aid package to Ukraine worth over £500 million, or $682 million. It envisions strengthening air defense, including through the supply of 1,000 surface-to-air missiles.

£150 million, or nearly $205 million, will go toward purchasing American weapons through the PURL program. This is the first time the British have contributed to the initiative, which is critical for providing ammunition for Patriot SAM systems and M142 HIMARS rocket systems.

They also promised delivery of another thousand Lightweight Multirole Missiles (LMM). These have been arriving in Ukraine since 2022 and are actively used by air defense units in Martlet MANPADS and short-range Stormer SAM systems.

The UK Ministry of Defence statement indicates this will be a production order to be fulfilled in Belfast. The project cost is stated at £390 million, or $532 million.

Another interesting point is the mention of enhanced cooperation between the Ukrainian and British defense industries. This concerns the transfer and support of RapidRanger SAM system launchers and command posts, which we previously covered in detail.

Finally, it is emphasized that in the coming months, Ukraine will receive 1,200 surface-to-air missiles and another 200,000 artillery ammunition rounds from the United Kingdom. Deliveries will be made within the framework of the Air Defence Consortium (ADC).

Recall that in March 2025, the British announced an order for 5,000 LMM missiles and RapidRanger SAM systems. Moreover, the plan is not simply to transfer domestically manufactured units, but a full production transfer to Ukraine including technologies.

Regarding specifications, according to data on the Thales website, LMM has a range of up to 6 km with a mass of 13 kg and a speed of Mach 1.5. As for RapidRanger, photos of them in service with the Defense Forces have not yet appeared in open access.
