Ukrainian forces have struck a critical energy facility in russia's Tambov region, dealing another blow to the logistics network that sustains Moscow's war machine. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the operation on August 18, noting that the target was a key oil pumping station.
According to the statement, units of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, working in coordination with other elements of Ukrainian forces, carried out the strike against the Nikolskoe oil pumping station. The attack highlights the growing role of drone warfare in Ukraine's strategy to disrupt russia's infrastructure and weaken its ability to wage war.

As a result of the strike, a fire broke out at the facility, forcing a complete shutdown of crude oil pumping through the Druzhba pipeline. This pipeline is one of the largest oil transport networks in Europe and remains vital to russia's energy exports, as well as its internal distribution of fuel supplies.

The General Staff emphasized that the Nikolskoe station is part of russia's economic infrastructure and directly involved in sustaining occupation forces in Ukraine. By targeting such assets, Ukraine aims to cut off fuel supplies that are essential for the mobility of Rrussian troops and equipment.
Kyiv has consistently underlined its strategy of reducing russia's military and economic capacity through precision strikes against critical facilities. These operations not only undermine russia's war logistics but also send a message about Ukraine's ability to project force deep inside russian territory.
As Defense Express previously reported, russian forces once again tried to strengthen their foothold on the Northern Slobozhanske axis, this time attempting to move artillery across a destroyed bridge using a truck. The risky maneuver underscored Moscow's desperation to push forward despite heavy Ukrainian resistance.
The plan was to deliver a cannon to frontline positions, but the attempt was doomed from the start. Driving a loaded vehicle across a blown-up river crossing left the russian crew exposed to reconnaissance and precision strikes.
