The HMS Somerset and HMS Tyne frigates are deployed to monitor intelligence-gathering ship

The Royal Navy deployed two vessels to monitor russian Yantar spy ship, which entered British waters earlier this week, according to the UK Defense Secretary John Healey. The vessel, identified as an intelligence-gathering ship, was observed mapping critical underwater infrastructure in the region.

According to John Healey, the Yantar ship entered the UK exclusive economic zone approximately 45 miles off the British coast on Monday. In response, the Royal Navy dispatched the HMS Somerset and HMS Tyne frigates to track the ship’s movements.

“For the last two days, the Royal Navy has been monitoring the vessel every minute through our waters,” John Healey stated, emphasizing the government’s vigilance in protecting national security.
