The Netherlands is not only delivering a hundred anti-drone radars by the end of the year as well as hybrid optionally manned ground drones by Rheinmetall, but is also allocating 80 million euros for Ukrainian drones

The Dutch government has announced a new support package worth a total of 175 million euros to strengthen Ukraine's defense. This package provides for the transfer to Ukraine of 100 radar stations at once, which are designed to detect UAVs and will work in Ukraine’s joint air defense system. The entire batch of one hundred radars should be delivered by the end of this year.

The specific type of radar is not specified, but there is a clarification that these will be additional radar stations, that is, apparently, a continuation of previous deliveries. Therefore, it is possible to recall that in August 2024, the Dutch Ministry of Defense announced sighing a contract for the manufacture of 51 radars capable to detect UAVs with the aim of transferring them to Ukraine. This contract was awarded to the Dutch company Robin Radar Systems.

In the company's product line, there is only one radar that specializes in the detection of UAVs - IRIS Drone Radar. This is a small-sized three-coordinate radar station operating in the X-Band range (wavelength: 3.75-2.5 cm, frequency: 8 - 12 GHz).

This radar, according to the data published by the developer, provides a circular view with an instrumental range of up to 5 km, detection of a drone weighing 3 kg - at a distance of 4 km, and a 1.5-kg drone - 2 km. The radar itself weighs only 29 kg, which allows it to be mounted on light vehicles, while the radar can operate while moving, which in general may indicate a high mobility of the system.

Thus, most likely, the Dutch government ordered these radars, or their modification, which was specially adapted to the current needs of Ukraine. This may also be indicated by the rather short supply cycle of these radars, because they need to be manufactured at an average rate of 16 per month, unless of course the contract was signed earlier.

The Dutch government also announced the transfer of two dozen ERMINE CASEVAC unmanned vehicles to Ukraine for the evacuation of the wounded. Although the manufacturer of these vehicles was not named, among the products of foreign companies it is possible to find an offer of Rheinmetall with the ERMINE family of hybrid vehicles.

Despite the fact that ERMINE has all the necessary organs for their control by a person, they are representatives of optionally manned ground drones. That is, they can be controlled remotely, or, if necessary, by a person. But "CASEVAC" indicates only a specific role - casualty evacuation, evacuation of the wounded.

The 6x6 chassis is best suited for the mission of evacuating the wounded. It can carry cargo up to 500 kg, has a maximum speed of up to 90 km/h, and is powered by a 30 kV electric motor with a 16 or 32 kWh battery, as well as a diesel engine-generator.

The third component of this package of the Netherlands military aid to Ukraine is 80 million euros for UAVs. At the same time, the Netherlands did not specify which drones will be purchased for Ukraine, but it is known that they will be supplied through the international coalition of drones, which was previously created within the framework of Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG, also known as the Ramstein group).

As Defense Express reported, earlier the Netherlands strengthened Ukraine’s Air Defense with command center for Patriot, F-16 Jets, and €150 Million for HAWK SAM Sysytems.
