Footage of KamAZ trucks with armored cabins and electronic warfare equipment suggests that russia is trying to safeguard its logistics amid widespread drone use

Learning from battlefield experience, russians have begun equipping KamAZ trucks with armored cabins and electronic warfare systems. This development comes in response to the widespread use of drones, which are actively disrupting logistics.

A video showing a train transporting a batch of trucks from the factory has appeared on social media. It is clear that this is not just a field modification, but a complete set of protection from the manufacturer, which is not yet available in Ukraine.

This indicates that russians are taking a systematic approach to adapting trucks to the new realities of the battlefield, where drones dominate. Earlier, this was only seen on armored vehicles such as tanks and infantry fighting vehicles.

However, russian defense industry usually lags behind current capabilities, such as installing outdated electronic warfare equipment or obsolete grills that cannot provide protection against UAVs. The video shows that the vehicles lack anti-drone nets, which are more effective than conventional armored cabins and are used on Giatsint-K wheeled self-propelled guns.

As for Ukraine, truck production was problematic even before the full-scale war, so it is doubtful what is happening now. The majority of needs are covered by imports or assistance from partner countries, providing a wide variety of logistics vehicles.

At the same time, the delivered vehicles and tractors usually arrive in factory configuration, which may include an armored cabin, as seen in the new RMMV TGS-MIL. However, it does not provide for adjustments to the realities of mass UAV deployment.

It would be surprising to see Europeans using standard anti-drone nets, but it is a completely different story when it comes to electronic warfare. It is important to note that it can take foreign companies more than six months to adapt to battlefield realities, leaving protection measures potentially ineffective.

Nevertheless, trucks are being adapted, for example with the installation of a defensive aid suite for Sweden as part of the Volvo VIPRO. These solutions have not yet been delivered to Ukraine, so obtaining standard mounts or space for electronic warfare and other anti-drone systems could be useful.
