The Polish arms manufacturer Niewiadów has signed an agreement with the American defense company Northrop Grumman on cooperation in the production of 155 mm artillery ammunition. They will be supplied to a wide range of European customers, which may include Ukraine.
The new agreements outline the framework for cooperation, including technological and certification procedures. The move follows a memorandum signed between the companies in September 2025.

According to the company, the agreement includes the transfer of technology to produce hardened malleable iron for shell casings. It allows manufacturers to shorten the production cycle and adjust output volumes more flexibly while preserving steel-level strength.
The move is expected to help the industry reduce costs and maintain consistent quality, while also improving its ability to meet demand in Europe.

It appears that Poland is working to increase the production of artillery ammunition not only by establishing enterprises but also by attracting relevant technologies. A similar example of cooperation can be seen between PGZ and BAE Systems, where they agreed to establish modern automated production lines.
Another notable point is that the shells are expected to be sold to a broad range of European customers. It suggests that the focus will extend beyond Poland to the wider region, where ammunition demand has surged.

Ukraine could also benefit from the cooperation between Niewiadów and Northrop Grumman, as the Armed Forces still require large quantities of artillery shells, making the emergence of an additional supplier advantageous. It is currently expected that the joint project will already be producing 120,000 shells per year by October 2026 and will reach full capacity in a few years.
At the same time, Poland is developing its own technologies for manufacturing these products to avoid reliance on licenses from outside the EU. This aligns with the country's policy of strengthening its domestic defense industry capabilities. It should also be noted that Northrop Grumman is organizing joint ammunition production in Ukraine.
