Discovered in Dnipropetrovsk region, russian BREM-D system will be repurposed for Ukrainian service, strengthening battlefield repair and evacuation capabilities

A russian armored recovery vehicle found in Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk region will be transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to the State Bureau of Investigations. The platform, originally operated by russian forces, is expected to be repurposed to support Ukrainian units on the battlefield.

The vehicle is identified as a BREM-D (Object 932), a specialized armored repair and recovery system. It was brought into the region from previously liberated territories, suggesting it was either abandoned during retreat or left behind amid earlier fighting.

This is not just another armored vehicle. BREM-D system is designed as a full-cycle support platform, capable of evacuating damaged equipment, carrying out repairs, and maintaining vehicles directly in combat zones. In a war defined by high equipment attrition, such systems play a critical role in sustaining operational capability.

Equipped with a crane, winch, and onboard repair tools, the platform allows crews to conduct field-level maintenance without pulling damaged assets far from the front. That directly reduces downtime and increases the chances of returning vehicles to service quickly.

Estimates put the value of BREM-D system between $1.5 million and $2.5 million, depending on its condition. For Ukraine, this is both a logistical and economic gain, acquiring a rare and expensive capability without procurement delays.

The State Bureau of Investigations confirmed that the transfer process is already underway. Once integrated, the vehicle will be used to evacuate and restore Ukrainian military equipment, reinforcing sustainment capacity at the front.
