Another German Iris-T SLM air defense system has arrived to protect Ukrainian skies. It has already begun duty and has been able to shoot down nine targets, including seven cruise missiles: five Kh-101 and two Iskander-K missiles, as well as two Shahed-131/136 strike UAVs.
The new air defense system was received by the military from the West Air Command, namely the 223rd Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment. They note the effectiveness and reliability of such weapons.

According to publicly available information, this is the third Iris-T SLM air defense system delivered this year out of the four promised. Like the systems delivered in June and August, the battery was supplemented by two IRIS-T SLS short-range launchers.
It should be noted that Germany has classified all military aid, so it is unclear which shipment this system represents. It is possible that this could be the fourth, while the third is already in Ukraine, but this is still being kept secret.

Meanwhile, unofficial reports suggest that Germany will not be able to fulfill its initial promise of four IRIS-T SLMs this year, delivering only three. This means that the system shown by the Ukrainian military may be the third and final one in 2025.
In any case, the German air defense system has proven highly effective against russian combined attacks. Its ability to shoot down targets such as UAVs and cruise missiles has been repeatedly demonstrated by the Ukrainian military.

Iris-T SLM is capable of intercepting threats at a distance of up to 40 km and an altitude of up to 20 km. This is supported by two IRIS-T SLS launchers, with ranges and altitudes of up to 10 km and six km respectively, offering a more cost-effective option for engaging targets.
In the future, Ukraine is to receive nine more such air defense systems, with deliveries continuing next year. Various buyers are showing strong interest and placing orders, which could make this air defense system a leading one in Europe.
