According to Spanish Minister of Defense Margarita Robles, 6 Leopard 2 main battle tanks have left the port city of Santander on the north coast of Spain and are on their way to Ukraine. The tanks are accompanied by “20 heavy transport vehicles” and are expected to arrive in six days after traveling by sea and passing through another country.
In addition to these tanks, 4 more are expected to be sent to Ukraine “as soon as possible” following repairs. The Spanish government has also provided training to 40 tank crew members and 15 mechanics to operate and maintain the tanks.

The "heavy transport vehicles" mentioned in the announcement refer to the M113 armored personnel carriers (APCs) supply that was announced in late March 2023. Moreover, at the beginning of March, the Spanish company Star Defense Logistics & Engineering initiated a project to convert the M113 APCs into unmanned ground vehicles.
Previously, in February, Spain sent 20 M113 armored personnel carriers to Ukraine.
