Netherlands seeks 120+ FFG ACSV tracked platforms beyond 40 already ordered for air defense, 8 secretly delivered to Ukraine

Netherlands has a need to purchase over 120 ACSV armored support vehicles from German company Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft (FFG). This concerns various variants both chassis for specialized equipment and simply as support platforms.

Shepard Media reports this citing information received at Defence IQ International Armoured Vehicles (IAV) conference. There it also became known that at minimum eight such armored vehicles were already transferred to Ukraine.

Currently FFG is developing concepts to close long-term Dutch army needs for tracked armored vehicles. This will complement currently ordered 18 chassis for NOMADS air defense systems and another 22 for Skyranger 30 anti-aircraft guns.

Interestingly, the gun system from Rheinmetall will arrive in containerized modification, so it can be calmly removed from ACSV G5 and placed on ground for use. Meanwhile, armored vehicles for self-defense will receive a combat module with 12.7mm machine gun from Norwegian Kongsberg.

Defense Express notes that FFG's vehicle can become a good foundation for tracked equipment fleet for various tasks. Its design with 10-foot platform where cargo, containers, or other payload can be placed facilitates this.

Indeed, Norway which became the first ACSV G5 operator besides base variant and NOMADS air defense system also ordered ARVs based on them. The manufacturer on its website offers cargo variants for containers, with crane or fully enclosed APC, and at DSEI 2025 exhibition were displayed with Ragnarok mortar module from Rheinmetall.

Regarding these vehicles' characteristics: with 26-ton weight they can carry 8 tons of payload. They have maximum speed up to 74 km/h, 600km range, and automatic transmission. A 360-degree camera viewing system is present.

Recalling some history: ACSV G5 originates from PMMC (Protected Mission Module Carrier) G5 armored personnel carriers offered in the 2010s to replace M113 but without particular success. However, now with a slightly different platform, it seems FFG has finally found success in Europe.
