White House is again talking with absolute seriousness about needing Greenland, which is part of Denmark, considering national security, as stated by American President Donald Trump.
These threats were heard in Copenhagen, as Danish government leader Mette Frederiksen officially declared such encroachments absolutely absurd, and the U.S. has no right to annex any of the three countries comprising the Kingdom of Denmark, and if this happens, NATO and the entire security architecture formed after World War II will be destroyed.

Meanwhile, that the U.S. already has access to all Greenland's security infrastructure and can expand it if desired is indisputable. Therefore, all Washington's national security cover is quite illusory. Instead, Copenhagen evidently understands perfectly well what the current American president wants the territory itself and new opportunities this acquisition opens.
To understand the more than likely final design, attention must be paid to another repeatedly voiced territorial claim Canada, which Trump has already repeatedly threatened to turn into the 51st state. Also to a very important statement about not just professing the Monroe Doctrine but very laconically formulated by U.S. Secretary of State its essence "this is OUR hemisphere."
Of course, including all resources located in it to which the current American administration wants to ensure free access, disposal, or secure ownership. This specifically includes the Arctic, access to which, due to ice melting, is becoming easier.
Meanwhile, in the Arctic division issue, the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea operates, allowing formation of approximately such control boundaries for this region:

For the U.S., the main minus in this situation is that under current Arctic division, Americans can count only on a relatively small share thanks to Alaska. But the biggest gains in the Western Hemisphere will go to Denmark, precisely thanks to Greenland, and Canada.
Also worth adding to the territory division map is a map of known and prospective oil and gas fields:

Plus words from Stephen Miller, Trump's senior policy advisor, who directly stated that the U.S is a superpower and should behave like a superpower, and no one will fight the U.S. over Greenland.
We live in a world where you can talk as much as you want about international niceties and everything else, but we live in the real world where might rules.
