Chongar railway bridge is the only railway route from the temporarily occupied Crimea towards Melitopol, Berdyansk and Mariupol

The first photo of the damaged railway bridge across the Chongar Strait became available on the Internet. As previously reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, "The Defense Forces of Ukraine successfully struck the Chongar bridge in the morning of July 29."

Despite the quality of the photo circulating on the Internet is quite low, there are several details that can be of great importance in order to assess the possible consequences of such an impact.

First of all, attention should be paid to the damage itself. The impact came at the beginning of the bridge from the mainland side. Judging by the photo, we are not talking about the collapse of the structure itself, although it is possible that it could have received significant internal damage, which could affect the actual carrying capacity of the bridge.

At the same time, the bridge itself is of great importance for russians, as it is the only railway route that leads from the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea to Melitopol, Berdyansk and Mariupol. At the same time, it should be noted that the railway line passing through Armyansk goes only to Kherson.

The active use of the railway bridge across the Chongar Strait is indicated by the condition of the rails themselves. In the lower corner of the photo, you can clearly see that they are shining, which indicates the rather active use of the bridge by the occupiers, primarily for the transportation of military cargo.

It should also be noted that especially to ensure the fulfillment of the task of logistical support of the military, the russians had previously repaired this railway branch, in particular, the sleepers were replaced.

It should also be stated that we should not expect the enemy to completely stop the operation of the only railway route available to them due to the attack on the Chongar Bridge, which took place in the morning of July 29. There is a high probability that the enemy will make all necessary efforts to restore the Chongar railway bridge in the shortest possible time. Therefore, in order to guarantee the termination of logistical supplies by this railway route, the strikes on the bridge must become permanent and methodical.
