In the era of FPV drones, and even more so on fiber optics, tanks become an easy target, but at the same time continue to perform tasks on the battlefield

Today, on the battlefield, main battle tanks remain one of the means of destroying the enemy, although they have significant difficulties in surviving in harsh battles under the conditions of the enemy's use of strike drones.

The commander of the tank company of the 157th separate mechanized brigade, Vasyl, call sign "Vasus", told the ArmyInform about how one of the tank crews destroys the russian occupation army.

As "Vasus" says, today it is not every day that one can go out to perform a task due to the saturation of the battlefield with strike drones, primarily fiber-optic ones - given that electronic warfare means are powerless against them. Therefore, for additional protection, the so-called "BBQ grills" (blizzard grilles for protection against RPGs and drones) are installed on the tank, protecting primarily the most vulnerable parts of the vehicle.

The crew of the vehicle, which is mentioned in the plot, is fighting in the Pokrovsky direction. As the soldier says, they hit the enemy both with direct fire - primarily at dugouts and forest plantations, as well as from closed firing positions.

In the first case, there were combat episodes when they fired at the enemy at a distance of only 900-1000 meters. In the case of firing from closed firing positions, the range can be 7-8 km. Given the risk of being hit by enemy drones, the tank cannot stay in one position for a long time, as it is "target #1" for the enemy.

In particular, the tank company commander recalls a case when the enemy hit the tank with 10-11 FPV drones at once. In this case, the "BBQ grills" played a significant protective role. From experience, the Ukrainian military has learned that it is important not to leave the hatch open so that the enemy drone cannot fly inside the vehicle.

The Ukrainian military man notes that recently it has not been possible to destroy enemy armored vehicles – in view of this, enemy tanks and other equipment are hit first by FPV drones. As an example, "Vasus" cited a recent combat episode when an enemy assault group was detected and by the time their tank reached the position, drone operators had already destroyed four russian tanks and infantry fighting vehicles.

According to the experience of the Ukrainian military, the choice of terrain for firing from closed positions is important – it must be perfectly flat in order to accurately shoot at the target. By the way, targets are determined in advance in case of an enemy breakthrough. Scenarios are also worked out in advance in case the enemy manages to knock out a tank - taking into account an active use of FPV drones by the russians.
