The Ground Launched Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB) should be a welcome addition to the existing arsenal of high-precision weapons that the Armed Forces of Ukraine can launch from their M142 HIMARS and M270 MLRS systems

Ukraine does not yet have high-precision long-range GLSDB surface-to-surface missile in service, and they will not appear in Ukraine until the fall of this year. Such information was reported to the US Congress by Deputy Assistant the US Secretary of Defense Laura Cooper.

In particular, at the beginning of February, 2023, in the next package of defense aid worth 2.175 billion US dollars, it was announced that Ukraine would receive a new type of weapons - high-precision GLSDB surface-to-surface missile (jointly developed by Boeing and SAAB), with which the range of the HIMARS and M270 missile systems in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine would increase to 150 km.

The missiles were allocated as part of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) program, under which weapons and military equipment are ordered directly from manufacturers. In view of this, the main question is when exactly Ukraine can get these high-precision weapons in order to reach the russian invaders in the deep rear.

Now we have information that the GLSDB will appear in Ukraine no earlier than autumn - however, in addition to the delivery dates, the number of missiles that the American defense industry is capable of producing is also important.

And here we can recall that back in January, the mass media noted that, according to analysts' estimates, after agreeing to the transfer of high-precision GLSDB to Ukraine, Ukraine could receive the first 24 bombs within nine months. Which, in general, is included in the terms defined by Cooper "not before the fall." And in general, by the end of 2024, the United States will be able to supply Ukraine with 750 such bombs.

That is, if, for example, the USA starts supplying GLSDB to Ukraine already in the fall of 2023, then the average rate of missile transfer will be approximately 47 surface-to-surface missiles per month. Which in general - taking into account the fact that Ukraine will be the first country to use this weapon on the battlefield, looks not bad.

In the context of the GLSDB transmission, it is also worth mentioning that the Russians in their "style" are already "effectively shooting down" these surface-to-surface missiles, and even demonstrated the "work" on the bombs of their Buk anti-aircraft missile system, from which the missiles almost fell due to the unconfigured block of boosters of the vertical guidance.
