In December 2024, Rheinmetall announced a new contract to supply Ukraine with additional 20 Marder 1A3 infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs). Scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2025, the order is valued at a mid-range double-digit million euro amount and will be financed by the German government. This latest batch adds to substantial number of the Marder vehicles already provided to Ukraine by Rheinmetall.
The Marder 1A3 IFV features enhancements such as an additional laser rangefinder for precise target engagement. Rheinmetall first delivered 20 of these vehicles to Ukraine in March 2023, with subsequent shipments arriving in double figures. The ongoing support underscores Germany’s commitment to bolstering Ukraine’s defense capabilities amid ongoing conflict.

Rheinmetall began overhauling the Marder 1A3 vehicles from its own inventory in spring 2022, a proactive move to expedite delivery. These refurbishments, conducted at the company’s facilities in Unterlüß and Kassel, ensure the vehicles are combat-ready upon arrival.
