​Improvised Mount For N.Korean Rocket Launcher: russians Put Type 75 MLRS on a Varan Robo-Platform

russian forces demonstrate a rather pragmatic solution for transporting the North Korean artillery rocket launcher

Around late June 2025, media reports and frontline footage confirmed that russian invasion forces operating in Ukraine had finally received and used Type-75 multiple launch rocket systems from North Korea, with mysterious and dangerous cluster missiles.

New details emerged the other day. In a video, russian troops were noticed transporting a Type-75 MLRS using, among other things, a tracked unmanned ground system, name's Varan. The footage shows the relocation of the rocket launcher towards a firing position and the crew's operations on the spot.

The artillerymen employed high-explosive fragmentation rockets marked RSZO-107-OF (ed. note: RSZO usually stands for MLRS in russian). The video was highlighted by the Vodohrai online journal and Ivan Khomenko, journalist for United24 Media.

On a note from Defense Express, it seems that the russians use the Varan robotic platform quite actively on the war front, at least for conducting experiments and testing in combination with different types of weapons.

For instance, in May 2024, we reported them trying a Triton electronic warfare system installed on the Varan as a means of anti-drone cover for assault groups. Then, in February 2025, a video surfaced showing the Okhotnik turret with three Kornet anti-tank missile launchers mounted on a Varan as well.

For a reminder, the Varan UGV entered mass production in 2024, alongside an announcement of plans to assemble about 300 such robotic platforms per year, or a little less than 30 monthly. Also, some specifications were disclosed, as russians stated the Varan can transport up to 200 kg of cargo and be utilized as a one-way attack drone.
