Today, the Kherson Brigade is equipped with a mix of Soviet-designed helicopters that remain the backbone of Ukrainian army aviation. These include the light utility Mi-2, the versatile transport Mi-8, and the heavily armed Mi-24 attack helicopters. Many of these have been upgraded or adapted for modern combat needs.
Formed in 1992, the Brigade traces its origins to the Soviet-era 320th Helicopter Regiment. After Ukraine regained independence, the unit was reorganized into Ukrainian military structure, marking an early step in building the country's post-Soviet armed forces.
For a period, the Brigade operated within the structure of the 79th Air Assault Brigade, serving in close coordination with airborne units. This integration honed the Brigade's skills in providing rapid-deployment support, casualty evacuation, and close air assistance under high-intensity combat conditions.

The Brigade's helicopter crews perform a variety of critical missions: delivering supplies to remote positions, extracting wounded soldiers under fire, striking enemy strongpoints, and supporting special operations forces. In the high-tempo battles of the ongoing war, their mobility and firepower are essential for tactical flexibility.
Operating under constant threat from russian air defenses and drones, Ukrainian crews rely on low-altitude flying, terrain masking, and precise coordination to minimize risk. The 11th Brigade's pilots are trained to operate in complex environments, including frontlines saturated with electronic warfare and enemy observation.
