During the night of April 4-5, there was another attack carried out by unmanned aerial vehicles targeting military facilities within the russian federation. These strikes were primarily directed at military airfields used by russian forces to conduct airstrikes on Ukrainian territories.

The Ministry of Defense of russia issued its report claiming that all UAVs were successfully intercepted by air defense systems. The report detailed specific areas where interception took place, such as Saratov, Kursk and Belgorod regions, each experiencing one interception, while Krasnodar region saw six UAVs intercepted. Notably, the highest number of interceptions, allegedly 44 UAVs, occurred over Rostov region, a figure also corroborated by the regional governor, Vasily Golubev, who mentioned “over 40 targets” and cited damage to a power station as a result of the attack.

Simultaneously, there was an attack on the Morozovsk military airfield in Rostov region, predominantly utilized by russia for its Su-34 frontline bombers. These aircraft are used to drop guided bombs on Ukrainian territory. Social media reports indicated numerous explosions during this attack. The local administration of Morozovsk advised against stopping near the military airfield or any military infrastructure in the area.

According to open-source intelligence analyst MT_Anderson, as of April 4, the Morozovsk airfield housed around 26 Su-34 units and three Su-30/35 fighters. The impact of the attack is expected to be revealed through satellite imagery, with potential significant damage or destruction to a substantial number of aircraft. Additionally, on the night of April 5, there were reports of explosions in Yeysk (Krasnodar region) and Engels (Saratov region), where other airfields are situated. For instance, satellite images from March 29 showed eight Tu-95MS bombers, three Tu-160 bombers and two Tu-134UBL/UBK aircraft at the Engels-2 airfield, as reported by monitoring channels.
