Former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2006-2010, Lieutenant General in retirement Ihor Romanenko told OBOZ.UA about the likely direction of the counteroffensive of Ukrainian troops. In his opinion, the most effective direction for Ukrainian army's offensive is the left bank of the Dnipro River, that later can open a way to south toward Crimea.

He noted that last year, Kherson sector was the main direction of the offensive.

"The enemy found out about it, so they blew up the Kakhovka Dam to flood our most promising direction with water," he said.
At that time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine had resources for a counteroffensive in one direction, but they were distributed and then a fourth direction was added.

"Thus, only when it becomes clear where we can stop the enemy, what reserves we can gather, it will be possible to make decisions on priority areas. Especially given the negative experience of last year," Romanenko added.
