Modern warfare is constantly evolving. Veterans from conflicts around the world who come to Ukraine often admit that their past experience doesn’t fully apply here.

One of the most challenging and dangerous features of today’s russo-Ukrainian war is the drone threat — an ever-present danger that can track you nearly anywhere, strike independently, or guide other lethal weapons to your position.

But Ukrainian soldiers don’t have the luxury of fear or hesitation. They adapt. They train relentlessly to stay one step ahead.

On the front lines in the Kharkiv region, instructors recently held a live-fire training session focused on neutralizing unmanned aerial vehicles. Hitting a fast-moving drone with a smoothbore shotgun is often far more effective than using army-issued rifled weapons.

The shotgun’s high stopping power and wide shot spread help offset its limited range and lower bullet velocity. But using it to defend against explosive flying threats requires not just basic skill — it demands mastery.

While more advanced and long-range tools exist, the shotgun remains one of the most reliable and cost-effective "cures" for drones. It’s always within reach of infantry and special forces. And unlike electronic countermeasures, a shotgun doesn’t rely on batteries, signals, or software. It just works — whether the enemy "bird" is guided by radio waves or fiber-optic cable.

Soldiers of the International Legions for the Defense of Ukraine continue to sharpen their skills between missions. They train not for yesterday’s war — but for tomorrow’s threats. They train to survive. And to win. Real-world experience. The best instructors. The most relevant tactics.

Join the brave. Build your skills. Be ready for whatever comes next.
