The Kirishi refinery is one of russia's largest, with an annual processing capacity of approximately 20–21 million tons of crude oil. It accounts for more than 6 percent of the country`s total refining output and serves as a major hub for fuel distribution, supplying petroleum products via pipeline to export terminals in Ust-Luga and Primorsk.

Part of the refinery’s output is used to meet the fuel requirements of the russian military, underscoring its operational significance.

As noted by the General Staff, Ukraine continues systematic strikes aimed at weakening russia's military-economic potential and limiting its ability to supply its forces.
