Battle for the supply chains will decide the fate of Severodonetsk, as Ukrainian forces push russians into the eastern part of the city

The fighting in the eastern city of Severodonetsk continues. The last major city in Luhansk region has become the focus of russian offensive. Meanwhile, interesting processes are happening to the north from there.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported in the latest update that russian occupiers in the Kharkiv region are trying to not let Ukrainian forces break through and capture the Belgorod – Kupyansk highway.

Russians used remote minelaying capabilities to mine the areas near Shestakove, Peremoha and Bairak. Let’s put them on the map.

At the same time, russian engineers are attempting to fix the railway bridge across the river Oskil that leads to a local railway station. The crossroad of railways in Kupyansk connects the rear in russian territory with the frontlines.

The railway highlighted below connects Belgorod with Severodonetsk and Lysychansk and apparently is used to deliver supplies. Or it was used before the bridge was blown up, so that russians were forced to use the highway instead.

Now let’s take a wider look: while Ukrainian forces are trying to advance towards Belgorod – Kupyansk route, the russians are attacking the Ukrainian supply chain in the south. The Bakhmut – Lysychansk highway also provides access to Severodonetsk and is currently under Ukraine’s control.

Hence we have a situation when two sides simultaneously try to thwart the enemy’s supply chain. As Defense Express earlier reported, Ukrainian forces in Severodonetsk have managed to force russians from two villages and then regain control of about half of the city after the reinforcements from the International Legion arrived.

At the moment, the situation in Severodonetsk “changes by the hour", according to Oleksandr Striuk, Head of the city’s military administration. He said the fighting is going on in the eastern part of the city.
