A joint Ukrainian operation struck deep into russia, eliminating russian Iskander transport-and-loading vehicle and Garmon radar used for air surveillance

Ukraine's Special Operations Forces, working together with the Chernaya Iskra partisan group, struck a transport-and-loading vehicle for the Iskander short-range ballistic missile system and destroyed the 1L122 Garmon radar during a cross-border operation on the night of October 4 near Kursk region.

The strikes, reported close to the villages of Ovsiannykovo and Nyzhnyi Reutets, targeted systems directly involved in preparing and supporting strikes against Ukrainian territory.

The transport-and-loading vehicle for the Iskander system is a high-value logistics node: it moves missiles, loads them onto launchers, and enables rapid rearmament of firing units. Damaging such a vehicle reduces the enemy's ability to sustain or rapidly reconstitute missile strikes, complicates reload cycles, and forces Moscow to divert resources to recover or replace logistical assets behind the front. In short, it hits the supply chain that makes precision strikes possible.

The destruction of the 1L122 Garmon radar carries its own operational weight. This compact radar is used for air target detection and tracking at shorter ranges and can provide targeting data for air defense and strike systems.

Eliminating a forward-deployed Garmon reduces russian situational awareness in that sector, degrades their air defense picture, and creates windows of opportunity for Ukrainian aviation and unmanned systems to operate with less risk.

Tactically, the dual strikes demonstrate a clear logic: attack both the means to launch strikes and the sensors that protect those launch and support systems. That pairing multiplies the local effect, not only are missiles harder to move and prepare, but the enemy's ability to detect and respond to follow-up Ukrainian actions is also diminished. It's a classic application of mission-focused interdiction.

As Defense Express previously reported, Ukraine's Achilles 429th Regiment continues to demonstrate precision and effectiveness on the battlefield, systematically targeting and destroying russian heavy equipment across multiple sectors of the front. The unit's latest report highlights another series of successful air strikes, underscoring the growing importance of Ukrainian drone warfare in countering russian artillery and air defense systems.
