Moscow declines return of Ukrainian prisoners in exchange for collaborators, despite their requests

russia has refused to exchange Ukrainian collaborators who have received court sentences for their assistance to russian forces, despite their expressed desire to relocate to russia in exchange for the release of the Ukrainians held in russian captivity. This information was shared by the I Want to Be with My Own project on its Telegram channel.

The project, supported by the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine and human rights organizations, revealed the conditions of Ukrainian collaborators currently held in Ukrainian custody. These individuals, who had provided russian forces with Ukrainian military positions, have been labeled “political prisoners” by russian propaganda. Following their sentencing, three of these collaborators expressed their willingness to move to russia if it meant freeing the Ukrainians in russian captivity.

The russian government is reportedly aware of these requests from hundreds of individuals on the I Want to Be with My Own website. However, the Kremlin has refused to accept its agents back, seeing them as valuable only when they are free and operational. The I Want to Be with My Own project highlights how interest from russian handlers fades when their collaborators are captured, raising further questions about russia’s stance on those who serve its interests.
