The system was subsequently hit, triggering the detonation of the remaining ammunition on the launcher. The resulting explosion further damaged the targeted air defense asset.
According to the brigade, its artillerymen were able to locate russian system after it had been concealed in a tree line. The target was identified with assistance from adjacent units of Ukraine's 3rd Army Corps.
The footage shows russian air defense system attempting to defend itself immediately before the strike. Despite launching two missiles, it failed to prevent the HIMARS attack.
The targeted asset was identified by the brigade as a launcher-loader vehicle belonging to the Buk air defense system. Such vehicles form part of the system's equipment used to launch and support its surface-to-air missiles.
The 45th Brigade said the Buk launcher-loader vehicle was worth approximately $5 million.
