The JSC Arzamas Instrument- Building Plant Named After P.I. Plandin is a supplier of crucial components for the Kh-101 cruise missile, supersonic Kh-32, and manually-guided Kh-59 missile

Ukrainian long-range drones successfully reached and struck a russian plant that plays an important role in missile production by supplying components. Early morning of August 11, industrial facilities of the Arzamas Instrument-Making Plant, in Nizhny Novgorod region, were attacked by FP-1 unmanned aerial vehicles, judging by videos published soon afterwards.

The footage shows several drones flying into the premises, but notably, no attempts by air defense to intercept them are visible.

Besides this particular plant, a number of other enterprises from russian military-industrial complex are located in Arzamas, suggesting that the city should be properly guarded from such drone raids. However, it seems to be not the case here.

The evident result of the strike included a fire that broke out at the facility, one video recorded two hits landing on the front building of the enterprise, and apparently some premises further in got affected as well, since there was smoke coming from the plant's internal territory.

This damage implies that although the enterprise wasn't completely destroyed, its regular operations would be disrupted — already a remarkable result.

According to the Ukrainian Defense Intelligence database, the targeted Arzamas Instrument-Making Plant named after P.I. Plandin "specialises in the development and production of gyroscopic instruments, control systems, on-board electronic computers, steering drives, test and verification systems, etc."

Among its products are parts for various cruise missiles, namely the K-051(M) inertial navigation system for Kh-32 supersonic missiles, BDG-1M damping gyroscope units for Kh-101 missiles, and ASL-1 automatic firing systems for the Kh-59 family of missiles. Similar components could also be supplied for newer models of russian missile weapons as well.

Therefore, targeting the instrument-making plant in Arzamas is consistent with Ukraine's recent tactics of strikes on component supply plants. They usually don't enjoy much air defense cover and are thus easier to take out than well-protected final assembly factories — which nonetheless depend on steady provision of key parts.

Earlier this July, Ukrainian FP-1 drones also successfully struck the Institute of Applied Chemistry and the AOMZ plant in russia, both involved in development of parts for Shahed-136 killer drones and guided airdropped munitions.
