Given the importance of military logistics in Poland's defense strategy, any signals or developments in this area warrant close attention

Poland had previously ordered several hundred tanks and intended to purchase railcars for their transport. This move significant for Ukraine as well. The issue has since developed, with the Polish Ministry of Defense now outlining concrete plans to modernize existing railway infrastructure for the movement of troops and military equipment.

These plans are revealing, as official Warsaw appears to believe that, in the event of a war with russia, it could receive some kind of "Lend-Lease" via the Baltic Sea ports. At the same time, the Poles do not even hope for a large-scale deployment of troops from other European countries.

According to Rynek Infrastrukturi, the Polish Ministry of Defense has submitted a request to the Ministry of Infrastructure to modernize a list of infrastructure facilities critical for defense logistics.

Regarding the Polish Baltic Sea ports, a request has been made to modernize the container terminal in Świnoujście as well as the infrastructure at the harbors of Gdynia and Ustka. As for the railways, a request has been made to modernize routes leading from the ports inland, as well as those connecting western Poland to its eastern border:

  • Gdynia - Bydgoszcz;
  • Ustka - Piła;
  • Ełk - Olecko;
  • Ełk - Trakiszki;
  • Lipusz - Bytów - Korzybie;
  • Wysoka Kamieńska - Płock.

In addition, seaports and all airports in Poland should receive air defense cover to protect them from enemy long-range kamikaze drones.

Specific details of these plans, including the timeline and expected costs, are currently unknown. In addition, having expanded infrastructure alone is not enough. Poland also faces bureaucratic barriers that restrict the movement of military units during peacetime.

Notably, the Polish Ministry of Defense focuses on developing defense logistics routes from the seaports inland rather than across the country from west to east.

Earlier Defense Express reported that Poland had discussed new approaches to European security and showcased achievements of domestic defense industry.
