​More Than 26 Countries Contribute to $1.5 Billion of Military Assistance for Ukraine at Copenhagen Conference

The meeting of Ukraine’s allies in Denmark results in another eloquent sign of support to Ukraine and its army

Western countries committed more than 1.5 billion euros ($1.55 billion) in cash, equipment and training to boost Ukraine's military capabilities in its war against russia, Reuters reports referring to Danish Minister of Defense Morten Bodskov.

During the event gathering 26 allies dedicated to further support of Ukraine, the participating states agreed on the provision of more weapons, missiles and ammunition, training of Ukrainian soldiers and demining activities. Also, they pledged to increase domestic weapon production for the sake of Ukraine.

Reuters provides no details on the nomenclature of the weapons provided, though Ukrainian defense ministry earlier said minister Oleksii Reznikov was discussing abroad training of Ukrainian military personnel with his Danish counterpart, in particular, training of land and sea mine clearance specialists; basic combined military training of mechanized units of the Land Forces and the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Also, Reznikov told journalists of the Los Angeles Times that acquiring more fighter planes is Ukraine's priority right now:

"In the first stage, we need fighters. After that, de-mining," the minister said.

In addition to that, as Defense Express previously reported, Great Britain announced the supply of three more M270 long-range rocket artillery systems during the event at Denmark’s capital.

The conference in Copenhagen is a follow-up to the series of meetings of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group – an international military aid coordination center established at a conference of defense ministers from around the globe at Ramstein U.S. air base in Germany this April.
