In recent observations along the Pokrovsk front, russian military has deployed the 2S7M Malka 203 mm self-propelled gun. This heavy artillery piece is designed for long-range bombardment, typically targeting fortified enemy positions or significant tactical infrastructure.
Notably, the Malka cannon in this deployment is equipped with two primary upgrades aimed at countering modern battlefield threats. The first is a protective “grill” mounted over the top of the vehicle, which acts as a barrier against drone attacks, reducing the risk of overhead strikes from UAVs or loitering munitions. The second is the addition of rubber screens along its flanks, which provide some degree of protection from shrapnel and smaller projectiles.

Additionally, the 2S7M gun is armed with newly produced OF-43 shells, as evidenced by markings from 2023. This recent ammunition suggests a commitment to maintaining a steady supply of compatible, high-explosive shells, enhancing the gun’s destructive potential and supporting sustained operations in contested areas.
