Ukrainian unmanned systems crews from the Phoenix unit continue to demonstrate high operational effectiveness in Donetsk region, targeting and destroying russian military equipment. Footage of their combat work was released on February 12 via the official channel of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the report, the unit struck a wide range of targets, including russian BM-21 Grad multiple launch rocket system, 2A36 Giatsint long-range artillery gun, tank, several armored vehicles, and a significant amount of transport equipment. The diversity of destroyed assets suggests systematic reconnaissance and coordinated strike capability rather than isolated engagements.

The elimination of systems such as the Grad and Giatsint units is particularly notable. Both platforms are key components of russia's firepower doctrine, enabling sustained artillery pressure along contested sectors. Neutralizing these assets reduces the density of indirect fire and complicates russian attempts to support offensive actions.
Russian forces in the area reportedly continue employing small assault group tactics, supported by artillery, armored vehicles, and their own drone units. This approach aims to probe Ukrainian defenses, exploit weak points, and maintain constant pressure along the line of contact.
However, such tactics rely heavily on mobility and fire support, both of which are increasingly vulnerable to Ukrainian drone reconnaissance and strike operations.
The Phoenix unit's strikes indicate a layered operational model: detect, track, and engage. By systematically identifying artillery positions, armored vehicles, logistics transport, and even ground robotic systems, Ukrainian drone operators are targeting not only frontline assault elements but also the enabling infrastructure behind them.
As Defense Express previously reported, on the night of February 11, operators from Ukraine's 1st Separate Center of Unmanned Systems carried out a precision strike against the Volgograd Oil Refinery. The facility, one of russia's strategic energy assets, is owned by Lukoil and processes up to 14-15 million tons of crude oil annually.
