The Ukrainian Air Force may try to shoot down russian ballistic missiles with existing air defense systems after they split into 6 submunitions

This was reported to NV by a source in the security and defense sector of Ukraine.

The Kedr missile system is a fairly recent russian development, but it is a modernization of Soviet technology. Such a missile could be a nuclear weapon carrier.

After reaching altitude, the main block separates into six submunitions. Currently, it may be difficult for Ukraine to shoot down such missiles. The most likely way to destroy them would be to shoot down submunitions rather than the entire missile.

Another source in the Armed Forces of Ukraine told NV that Ukraine is currently discussing with the United States the provision of weapons capable of intercepting intercontinental missiles. This could involve the modernization of the Patriot air defense system or the acquisition of the American Aegis or THAAD missile defense systems.

It is likely that russians used Kedr missile system against Ukraine to intimidate the population of Ukraine and Europe with the threat of a direct nuclear strike. The source in Ukraine's security and defense sector believes that such a missile attack was intended to persuade the United States to negotiate an end to the war.

Despite the fact that the missile used in the strike on the city of Dnipro did not contain nuclear weapons, the NV source does not rule out the possibility of further intimidation through russia's use of tactical nuclear weapons. The source noted that the use of such weapons would be putin's biggest mistake, which would ultimately lead to his defeat.

Earlier Defense Express reported that russia had planed to test ballistic missiles again.
