The T-72AMT upgrade incorporates enhancements that include: (1) improved tracks with driving wheels adopted from the T-80 tank; (2) more capable engine V-84-1 replacing the older V-46; (3) new reactive armor system; (4) advanced tactical radio communications; and (5) SN-3003 “Bazalt” navigation suite.

The vehicle received improved firing capabilities by adding night vision equipment with third-generation electro optical converters and the 1K13 night vision sighting system enabling night firing with the DKB Luch’ Kombat (125mm gun-fired laser-guided) missile, which is capable of penetrating 550 mm of RHA behind explosive reactive armor (ERA).
