The long-awaited combat vehicle entering serial production opens new opportunities to acquire vital armor for the Ukrainian Armed Forces and find export success globally

Ukrainian Armor LLC has officially announced the completion of testing and codification procedures for its new Varta-2 wheeled armored vehicle, which has now received clearance for delivery to the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

This milestone marks the beginning of serial production of a combat platform that frontline soldiers have repeatedly requested, according to the company’s press service.

Ukrainian Armor CEO Vladyslav Belbas noted that after the initial presentation of the Varta-2 prototype, the company received numerous appeals from military personnel in active service, emphasizing the urgent demand for armored vehicles of this class.

The Varta-2, he said, offers high speed, mobility, and robust protection, topped by impressive payload capacity enabling integration of full-fledged weaponized turrets — a standout firepower for a vehicle of its niche. The platform can take on a variety of missions from supporting infantry to engaging enemy armor.

Defense Express reminds that earlier Varta-2 was showcased in combination with the Sich remote weapon station with a 30-mm automatic cannon, making it one of the most heavily armed vehicles in its category.

Furthermore, it's the first AFV of its class to offer such a level of armament, developed domestically for the needs of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. To date, none of Ukraine's international partners have supplied an APC with comparable features as part of military aid.

For a reminder, the vehicle was first unveiled in September 2024 at the MSPO international defense exhibition in Kielce, Poland. At the time, its key specifications were disclosed: a combat weight of 14 tons, a top speed of up to 110 km/h, and capacity for up to 10 personnel.

Importantly, the Varta-2 can be outfitted with a reconnaissance drone set with an operational range of up to 30 km, integrated into the ICoMWare system providing situational awareness and information support to the commander for coordination at the unit level.

The vehicle's live-fire capabilities were publicly demonstrated in November 2024, when Economichna Pravda published the first footage of the Varta-2 firing its 30-mm cannon from the Sich turret.

With serial production now cleared to begin, the Varta-2 is poised to become a significant new asset for Ukraine’s defense forces — and a landmark achievement for the domestic military-industrial sector.
