Talks about an ammunition plant in Ukraine have been going on since 2014, and now it has finally become a reality

The Ukrainian military showed domestic rounds produced in June this year. The photographs show 5.45x39 ammunition for AK-74 assault rifle and for its derivatives with the inscription "Made in Ukraine" on the package.

The photos were published by one of Ukrainian Telegram channels with the caption "We received, tested, liked, want more".

The package labeling does not contain the name and address of the manufacturer, but the fact that the Defense Forces of Ukraine have started receiving domestic ammunition is very important. Especially when the idea of building an ammunition plant has been discussed since 2014.

The inscriptions on the rounds box may require decoding: FMJ BT is for full metal jacket boat tail. This means that a bullet has an all-metal shell and a conical tail shape.

The rather long number 1305-61-001-7027 is a NATO inventory number, where the first four numbers stand for ammunition in caliber up to 30 mm, 61 is the code of Ukraine, and the rest is the code of the item itself. The serial number of the batch is in Latin. So, as we can see this is not the first batch.

It should also be noted that the production of Soviet-caliber ammunition may well be a much higher priority for Ukraine than the production of NATO-standard ammunition. This is because the Soviet small arms in the Defense Forces of Ukraine are much more numerous than Western ones, and the question of where to get ammunition is open.
