Allies of Ukraine are working to strengthen the Armed Forces of Ukraine with Western armored vehicles not only qualitatively, but also quantitatively

The portal OLFI.DK claims that the Danish government wants to restore and transfer to Ukraine several dozen of its former Leopard 1A5-DK tanks, which are currently in storage at the German Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft (FFG) company from the city of Flensburg. Currently, it is known that during the next 3 months, Denmark can repair and transfer 20 Leopard 1A5-DK tanks to Ukraine, and 40 more in the next 6 months. A total of 99 tanks of this type are in storage at FFG.

From Defense Express, we add that it is currently unknown whether Denmark's intention to transfer Leopard 1A5 tanks to Ukraine excludes plans to transfer Danish Leopard 2 tanks (the Danish army has 44 tanks of this type), or whether Denmark may also transfer more modern Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. However, it is indicative that that the allies began to actively work on transferring not only the newer Leopard 2 to Ukraine, but also "mobilizing" the older Leopard 1A5, which in terms of characteristics are completely equal to the Ukrainian T-64BV.

For example, earlier in the media there were reports that Germany asked Brazil for tank shells for the Leopard 1A5 and was refused. That in turn means that Berlin has moved on to its intention to restore within 8 months and transfer 80 tanks of this type to Ukraine. All the more so as Reuters already claims that the German government has made an official decision to repair and hand over Leopard 1A5 tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In addition, fierce and difficult "bargaining" is currently underway between the Ministry of Defense of Belgium and the private company OIP regarding the price at which Brussels will be able to buy about 50 Leopard 1A5 tanks for further shipment to Ukraine. Initially, the management of OIP asked for half a million euros for one tank for restoration and transfer, but later "broke" the price to 1 million euros. It seems that Great Britain, which has already undertaken to buy up to 20 M109 self-propelled guns from OIP warehouses (and according to some reports, up to fifty M113 armored personnel carriers) will once again act as the "arbiter".

Even if the Leopard 1A5 tank can cause skepticism due to its "outdated" characteristics, the main thing here is the process itself - Western countries are working hard to provide Ukraine with enough tanks not only for the counteroffensive, which should begin in the spring, but also for a complete victory over the russians.
