The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has commissioned Rheinmetall to deliver additional 180,000 rounds of the HEI-T (High Explosive Incendiary with Tracer) 35 mm ammunition for the Gepard anti-aircraft gun. The contract, finalized in December 2024, is valued in the high double-digit million euro range and is being funded by Germany. This follows a previous order from February 2023, when Rheinmetall was tasked with supplying 300,000 rounds of the Gepard ammunition to Ukraine.
Newly ordered ammunition is designed to effectively counter a range of airborne threats, including drones. The production will take place at Rheinmetall’s Unterlüß facility, where the demand for 35 mm ammunition prompted an expensive and rapid reconstruction of the production line in early 2023.
